Cherry Pecan Bread

1/2 cup butter or margarine-softened
3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup chopped pecans
1 jar (10oz) maraschino cherries-drained and chopped
1 tsp vanilla

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs one ata time, beating well after each addition. Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt; add to the creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk. Stir in pecans, cherries, and vanilla. Pour into a greased and floured 8x4 inch loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 65-75 minutes or till toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan
