Crumb mixture:
2/3 cup brown sugar
1 cup flour
1 Tbls shortening
Syrup mixture:
1 cup molasses syrup
1 Tbls unsulphured cooking molasses
1 egg-beaten
3/4 cup boiling water
1 tsp baking soda
1 nine-inch unbaked pie shell
Combine crumb mixture, reserving half of crumbs for top of pie. Mix syrup, molasses, egg, water and soda together; add crumbs and combine lightly (mixture will be lumpy.) Pour into pie shell. Sprinkle reserved crumbs on top. Bake at 375 degrees for 15 min. with a foil collar around the crust. Remove foil and bake 20 min. more. Serve with vanilla or butter pecan ice cream if desired.
