German Chocolate cake mix (with pudding)
1-1/2 sticks butter-melted
1/3 cup evaporated milk (+ below)
14 oz caramels
1/3 cup evaporated milk (yes, another 1/3)
3/4 cup chocolate chips
nuts if desired
Combine cake mix, butter and first 1/3 cup of evaporated milk, and press 2/3 of mixture into a buttered 9x13 baking pan. Bake for 9 minutes at 350 degrees. Remove from oven and let cool while you melt the caramels and other 1/3 cup evaporated milk, then pour the melted ingredients over baked mixture in pan (As the baked mixture falls, a ridge will remain around the edge that will "catch" the caramel mixture) Glob remaining cake mix batter over caramel, then sprinkle chips and nuts (if using) over top. bake 18 minutes
